Background and Education:
Dave Hill is a highly accomplished musician, educator, and author with a career spanning several decades. A graduate of the prestigious Guitar Institute of Technology (now the Musicians’ Institute) in Hollywood, California, Dave completed his studies in 1983. Since then he has been deeply immersed in the world of music as both a performer and an educator.
Teaching Experience:
Dave’s passion for teaching is evident in his extensive 34 years of experience. He has been on the faculty of his alma mater, the Musicians’ Institute, where he continues to inspire and guide students in their musical journeys. From 2001 to 2016, Dave also taught at the Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena, California, further solidifying his reputation as a dedicated and effective educator. Currently based in Buffalo, New York, Dave remains committed to helping students of all skill levels realize their talents and creativity.
Performance and Recording:
As a versatile musician, Dave’s ability to play and teach a wide range of styles has made him a sought-after performer and collaborator. He has released two CDs of original Contemporary Jazz music, showcasing his skills as a guitarist and composer. His artistry reflects a deep understanding of diverse musical genres and an innate ability to connect with audiences.

Dave’s expertise extends beyond performance and teaching. He has contributed as an educational columnist for prominent publications such as Guitar Player and Guitar World magazines. Additionally, he is the author of a popular guitar book called “The Guitar Licktionary”, published by Hal Leonard, a leader in music education resources.
Current Location:
In November 2020, Dave relocated to Buffalo, New York, seeking a new environment amid the challenges of the pandemic. He continues to teach, perform, and compose, bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to the local and broader music community.
