Dave Hill's "NEW WORLD" is an ambitious follow up to his debut release, "Two Seasons". The title is symbolic, as the content and mood signifies an important milestone in his life; The birth of his first child. Although this may seem an ordinary occurrence, not previously anticipating he was ever going to be a parent at this stage of life was the catalyst setting the wheels in motion, creating the inspiration for the title track and the subsequent compositions for the collection.
Dave took a courageous step forward with this release, placing his guitar at the forefront while aligning himself with formidable company, enlisting some of the most prolific and distinctive musicians from the last 25 years. New World features music contributions by "The Yellowjackets", Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip and Will Kennedy (alumni), joining Dave to create the perfect balance to his melodic and soulful blend of Contemporary Jazz.
Jimmy Haslip, highly regarded as a producer in his own right, takes the reins on five tunes and Dave holds production credit on the other five tracks. The end result is a very satisfying, cohesive work blending Dave's skillful guitar work with the distinctive and undeniable sound of the Yellowjackets.

“"Dave Hill's "New World" is a fine follow up to his first release "Two Seasons". This CD is really a perfect blend of accessible contemporary jazz, fusion and bluesy influenced jazz. I don't think that there's a bad track on here and more impressive is Dave's guitar playing! His tone reminds me of the best of Larry Carlton/Robben Ford, yet I can hear some Pat Metheny in certain places. I guess you wouldn't say those are bad influences though. On this CD , he's assembled an All Star line up to guest with him on four tunes. I feel that more people should hear this CD and get a taste of his writing and guitar playing. They'll certainly want to hear more when they do.” - Amazon Verified Purchaser
Dave Hill's New World is an engaging mix of contemporary jazz, funk fusion and smooth jazz. The follow up to his debut, Two Seasons finds him in good company as Russell Ferrante and Jimmy Haslip of the world famous 'Yellowjackets' and Will Kennedy (Yellowjackets alumni) join him as guest artists.
This release brings Dave's' blues based jazz influenced guitar playing into focus against the backdrop of his beautiful and highly listenable compositions. While Russ Ferrante's instantly recognizable piano/electric piano style warms up his tracks, Haslip and Kennedy drive the rhythm section, pushing Dave's guitar to new levels of soulful expression. Dave's talented group is also featured on this album with notable performances by saxophonist Andy Suzuki and Michael Bluestein on keyboards. There is not a throw away tune on this album (co-produced by Jimmy Haslip). You will enjoy it more with each listen.
